Hastings Insurance is currently looking for a Medical Claim Technician! This is a great opportunity to join our Claim Support area and provide effective departmental administrative and clerical support.
Position Overview
The individual in this role will assist our Workers’ Compensation, PIP and Casualty Units in the handling of compliance reporting, medical vendor requests and billing and other claim-related activities in a timely and accurate fashion in accordance with established best practices, while providing quality service and ensuring appropriate payments to our customers.
Position Schedule & Location Details
- This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position, typically working Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
- Employees must be able to work at our Hastings, Michigan corporate headquarters, either on a daily basis or in a "hybrid" arrangement of both on-site and remote-based work.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Effectively communicates both verbally and written for internal and external communications with medical facilities, legal counsel, medical review vendor(s) and our external agency force.
- Demonstrates proficiency in using our claim system of record, document system, policy administration system, Excel and external databases for compliance reporting, medical bill review and legal forms.
- Acts as a Customer Service Representative responsible for providing pertinent information to insureds, agents and all other callers in a timely and courteous manner.
- Organizes and prioritizes all tasks to complete critical items timely.
- Creates claim-related documents for distribution to external customers.
- Makes accurate and timely payments to outside vendors, providers, etc.
- Copies and organizes claim files for distribution to outside parties.
- Completes timely and accurate state and EDI reporting.
- Initiates follow up calls to medical providers and other outside sources as requested.
- Participates in projects as assigned.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required. College Degree or prior medical terminology training a plus.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding in carrying out instructions either written or oral.
- Ability to type a minimum of 40 wpm with 90% accuracy.
- Demonstrated excellent customer service phone skills.
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a customer service role or related setting.
- Comfortable and able to perform in a team environment.
- Exemplify Hastings behavior standards and comply with all ethical and legal guidelines.
