GENERAL SUMMARY:
Develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive health care programs for athletes and other patients. Under the direction of, on the prescription of or in collaboration with a physician, the practice of athletic training includes the treatment of an individual for risk management injury prevention, clinical evaluation and assessment, immediate care and treatment, and rehabilitation and reconditioning of injury or illness, or both.
The Athletic Trainer is placed in various sites for provision of services including, but not limited to, high school/college/university, outreach programming, community events and engagements, and Henry Ford Health sites.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors with effective education and communication to enhance wellness and minimize the risk of injury and illness - Injury and Illness Prevention and Wellness Promotion. For example, assessment, PPE, plans to aid in risk reduction, personal protective equipment, environmental conditions, and optimization of wellness.
Implementing systematic, evidence-based examinations and assessments to formulate valid clinical diagnoses and determine patients' plan of care - Examination, Assessment and Diagnosis. For example, assessment of injuries and illnesses and to identify comorbidities, physical examination, including diagnostic testing, clinical diagnosis, interpretation of signs and symptoms of injuries, illnesses or other conditions that require referral, and prognosis and plan of care to optimize outcomes and encourage compliance.
. Integrating best practices in immediate and emergency care for optimal outcomes - Immediate and Emergency Care. For example, EAPs, triage, implementation of emergency and immediate care procedures, and referral strategies to facilitation timely transfer of care.
Rehabilitation and reconditioning injuries, illnesses, and general medical conditions with the goal of achieving optimal activity based on core concepts using the applications of therapeutic exercise, modality devices and manual techniques - Therapeutic Intervention. For example, developing, implementing, and progressing therapeutic exercise programs, applying therapeutic devices and interventions, fabricating taping techniques and orthotic devices, performing cognitive assessments, biomechanical, functional, and gait analyses, and making functional progressions and return to optimal activity decisions.
Integrating best practices in policy construction and implementation, documentation, and basic business practices to promote optimal patient care and employee well-being
Healthcare Administration and Professional Responsibility. For example, collaboration with professionals, compliance with HIPPA, OSHA, JACO, and Henry Ford Health Orthopedic guidelines, making ethical decisions that are consistent with professional
practice and guidelines, and using established documentation procedures to ensure best practice, coordinating schedules and care for appropriate medical coverage in the outreach setting.
- Maintaining professional development and ensuring compliance with state and national credentials; participating in in-services, meetings, and committees as assigned; and assisting and participating in education of young professionals through internship program or mentoring.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Board of Certification, Inc. certified as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) required.
· License as an Athletic Trainer (AT) through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs required or obtained prior to date of hire.
· Additional certifications and credentials obtained in health care (i.e., CSCS, PES, FMS, CKTP, EMT) preferred.
