Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Department Manager with a focus on Environmental Site Assessment and Remediation for the Upper Midwest Remediation Department (Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan). Department Managers are responsible for overseeing the performance of a geographic region with a corresponding portfolio of projects to assure the achievement of client-facing and internal KPIs.
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following.
Business Development:
Works collaboratively with Department Growth Lead, Client Account Managers (CAMs), Practice Leaders, and Business Line Leadership to grow profitable backlog and ensure financial success within the Upper Midwest Department
Assists with the development of the Department Tactical Growth Plan to align with business line strategy and strategic growth initiatives. Is responsible the implementation of the plan
Key decision maker on the Department's pursuit decisions and activities including risk analysis and review, "go/no-go processes", contract maintenance and negotiations, staff selection, and department work allocation
Leads capture strategies for key pursuits and major projects within the department, ensures those strategies yield high capture rates, and grows the business and relevant technical capabilities
May serves as a CAM and/or primary client contact for regional clients/accounts. Maintains a deep understanding of how these clients operates at all levels across the business. Builds, maintains, and facilitates trusting relationships with key contacts across the depth and breadth of the client's organization and supports Department team members in developing their contacts
Develops budgets that allow for successful business development, efficient tracking and optimization of wins and bookings, and effective project oversight
In collaboration with the Department Growth Lead, mentors, supports, and drives growth with the members of the Department; enhances coordination, collaboration, and diversification with the aim of identifying and developing the next batch of seller-doers within the Department
Leadership and People Management:
People management responsibility for leading a department of approximately 100 staff across multiple offices and states
Directly supervises a team of team leaders who share people management responsibilities across the Department
Serves as a focal point for issue resolution, and provides rapid follow-up to address concerns
Participates in feedback for Project Managers and technical staff to ensure client satisfaction and long-term growth
Develops and implements succession plans for the Department and recruits/develops top-class talent for key roles
Ensures employees responsible for technical project delivery are trained and mentored to be successful in their current role and with an eye toward career development
Coaches project managers and team leaders on understanding business performance and internal KPIs; implements processes with project managers to ensure exceedance of those metrics
Evaluates and manages performance of team members within the Department
Project Delivery & Operations:
Drives Department performance to meet and/or exceed client satisfaction and client objectives while meeting and/or exceeding internal KPIs (Net Service Revenue, Department margin goals, unbilled, accounts receivable, days sales outstanding) in support of business leadership (Practice Operations Leader)
Develops and formulates solutions to client problems/issues and acts as a point of escalation for project issues. This may include addressing project resourcing gaps, supporting technical issues, resolving invoicing and cash collection challenges, addressing subconsultant and vendor concerns, etc.
Is directly engaged with and manages high-profile projects in a directly billable function and also participates in project reviews of the Department's major projects to identify issues and improve performance and delivery
Is a champion for consistent project management practices and procedures in alignment with AECOM Project Delivery System (PDS) and Quality Management System (QMS) requirements
Interacts with business leadership on governance & risk issues to ensure compliance with Delegation of Authority (DOA) framework and identify risk triggers early such that they can be addressed in a proactive manner
Works to support the Remediation Practice digital strategy to drive the adoption and integration of digital solutions and tools
Actively integrates international Enterprise Capabilities (EC) technical, and administrative support resources into project delivery to meet business targets
Ensures accuracy of Workload Planning Tool data, Salesforce pipeline data, and other associated forecast data
Works with leadership of other departments and regions to help fulfill project resource needs globally
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree in Science or Engineering in a relevant field and 10+ years relevant experience, including 2 years of leadership or demonstrated equivalency including staff management, client account management, sales growth, and proposal development and technical review
Preferred Qualifications:
20+ years of relevant experience and a Master's Degree
Strong knowledge and track record in the environmental / remediation business inclusive of risk-based strategic asset management and advocacy in multiple state jurisdictions working for an Environmental Consultant
Respected people manager and successful team builder
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences
Excellent active listening skills

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $142,000.00 - $200,000.00.
