Position Summary:
The Senior Director, Medical Science Liaisons will lead a regional team of MSLs to deliver scientific and clinical expertise to Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders regarding Travere's current and upcoming therapies. This role is responsible for developing and executing the regional medical affairs strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives. The Senior Director serves as a key member of the US Medical Affairs Leadership Team, driving field medical excellence and shaping the future direction of the MSL organization.
This role requires a high level of strategic thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to elevate the performance and impact of the regional field medical organization. The Senior Director will be responsible for upskilling the regional team, implementing targeted training and development programs, and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment with overall field medical strategies and objectives.
Responsibilities:
Translate national strategies into regional plans and guide KOL engagement and territory management.
Develop and execute a comprehensive regional strategic plan for the Field Medical Team, aligning with corporate objectives.
Lead the regional team to achieve clinical and business goals through effective leadership, resource allocation, and performance management.
Serve as a clinical, scientific, and technical resource for the regional team and stakeholders, driving scientific engagement and thought leadership.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to identify and capitalize on regional opportunities.
Establish and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders and healthcare professionals to inform strategic decisions.
Ensure the compliant dissemination of scientific information in the region and uphold high standards of compliance, ethics, and professionalism.
Manage and develop field team members through hiring, training, mentoring, and performance management.
Oversee the gathering and communication of regional insights to inform strategic decision-making.
Scientific Expertise:
Demonstrates initiative and actively works to increase knowledge and serve as a role model within the broader organization and with key external stakeholders
Able to pull out salient points of key data to address stakeholder needs and concerns
Leads team scientific meetings and proactively facilitates the sharing of scientific knowledge
Relationship Management and Collaboration:
Maintains strong relationships and partnerships with relevant internal and external stakeholders to achieve goals and works cooperatively with others
Highly effective at cross functional team/region working. Excellent at managing projects and demonstrates leadership skills
Has a large network of key internal and external stakeholders and regularly exchanges relevant information
Leadership:
Develops clear vision and direction for the regional MSL team, ensuring alignment with US medical strategy
Serves as a coach and mentor to MSLs and Director MSLs, fostering a culture of scientific excellence and continuous development
Builds and maintains an engaged, high-performing team, promoting diversity, equity and inclusion
Manages performance, ensuring MSLs are working effectively and delivering on key metrics and objectives
Partners closely with internal stakeholders to align on priorities and lead collaborative initiatives
Oversees regional budget and resource allocation
Education/Experience Requirements:
Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, or MD) in a relevant scientific discipline. Equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience may be considered.
Minimum of 8 years of Medical Affairs experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within a field medical organization, preferably in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
Proven track record of successfully leading and managing high-performing regional field medical teams, with a focus on driving strategic impact and organizational success.
Deep expertise in one or more relevant therapeutic areas, with a strong preference for experience in rare diseases and/or nephrology.
Extensive experience in developing and executing regional field medical strategies, with a demonstrated ability to align with overall field medical objectives and drive measurable results.
