Accounting Manager
Iron Fish Distillery seeks an Accounting Manager to become a key part of our team that is focused on creating world class spirits and customer experiences as we build upon our solid soil-to-craft spirit portfolio as Michigan’s first farm distillery. Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
PURPOSE
The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial management and tax compliance. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements and compliance. The Accounting Manager supervises accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory and payroll functions and works collaboratively with other department managers.
This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, month and year end tax filings and the support of budget, forecast and financial analysis activities. The Accounting Manager will have contact with bankers, CPAs and the Partners of Iron Fish Distillery which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
? Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the departmental financial reporting and general ledger structure.
? Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
? Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
? Handle the daily banking requirements and reconcile bank and loan accounts.
? Ensure the monthly and quarterly tax compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner including Complete tax forms for excise, Michigan bottle tax, sale, use and withholding, state unemployment, 941 and federal unemployment.
? Leads budget, forecasting and financial analysis activities.
? Takes the lead role in inventory accounting and costing of manufactured products.
? Collaborates with the other department managers and owners to support overall department goals and objectives.
? Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
? Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine financial transactions.
? Responds to inquiries from the CFO and Owners regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
? Work with the CFO to ensure a clean and timely year end process.
? Supervise the accounting staff to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
? Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
? Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
? Handle personnel issues relating to payroll and benefits.
? Work with any direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
? Support CFO with special projects and workflow process improvements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting preferred but significant accounting experience also acceptable. Technical Skills and Prior Experience
Three or more years prior supervisory experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area. Experience working in a manufacturing or the hospitality industry is preferred.
Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast -pace setting. Experience with Quickbooks, Microsoft Excel and Word, Square Point of Sale a plus.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal, supervisory, negotiation and customer service skills required.
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.
