GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Surgical PA will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
The Surgical PA will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and care coordination as a first-line provider to patients and their families.
Provides inpatient and/or outpatient medical care.
Takes patient history, performs physical examination, orders, and interprets tests, makes diagnoses, and institutes appropriate treatment programs. Works in collaboration with staff physicians, house officers, nurses, and other medical care team members to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently.
Specific procedures are individually credentialed as indicated by training and experience. First or second assist in surgical cases.
APP will assist with cross coverage in clinics for APP vacations and leave of absences. Potential for first assist in the operative room prn.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/ CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Requires a bachelor's degree; completion of an AMA approved Physician Assistant or Surgeon's Assistant program; and Michigan state licensure and continued certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA). -OR- Certified Nurse Practitioner. Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Must be eligible or have obtained a DEA number for prescriptive authority in Michigan.
Recommendation for a physician assistant or nurse practitioner with at least 1 year of orthopedic experience preferred.
Preference would be exposure as a first assist in the operating room.
Previous experience in the ambulatory clinic setting is also preferred.
Current ACLS or BLS as required.
Current ATLS/PALS provider status as required.
