Manager, Radio Operations (WDET)

Essential functions (job duties):
The Radio Operations Manager reports to the Program Director and serves as a leader for WDET radio multi-media production and broadcast facility technicians. Ideal candidates for this role will enjoy exploring new technologies and working to empower staff through technology to achieve the mission of WDET. They will be detail-oriented and creative problem solvers who understand that diligence and vigilance related to the integrity and fidelity of our broadcast are paramount to the success of the station.
Oversee all Aspects of On-Air Radio Operations: Manage and maintain the program schedule as provided by the Program Director, assist in ensuring accuracy and compliance with FCC regulations.
Coordinate Traffic and Advertising: Secure and schedule on-air promotions, underwriting announcements, and other station messaging as provided and directed by the Program Director, adhering to internal policies and industry standards.
Manage WDET Audio and Technical Production Team: Manage, oversee, and support the audio and technical production team at WDET. Supervise work schedules and assign duties as required. Handle recruitment, hiring, corrections and dismissals, and performance evaluations of team members.
Manage WDET Broadcast Technical Facilities Team: Manage, oversee, and support the broadcast technical facilities team at WDET. Supervise work schedules and assign duties as required. Handle recruitment, hiring, corrections and dismissals, and performance evaluations of team members.
Provide Support to On-Air Talent and Production Teams: Assist with audio studio setup, equipment operations, and technical troubleshooting.
Maintain WDET Audio Library and Station Archives, Content Management Systems.
Collaborate with all Departments to Ensure Smooth Workflow and Operations. Stay up to Date on Best Practices and Industry Trends in Radio and Digital Media.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor's degree in Audio Technology, Music, Theatre, Journalism, Information Systems, or a related field of study is required.
Experience
Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience)
A minimum of 5 years' experience in radio operations management or equivalent management-level experience overseeing technical operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be a calm, effective communicator-able to handle shifting priorities or goals with composure and confidence.
Ability to collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders and subject matter experts with varying levels of expertise.
Ability to train and oversee teams and to adapt quickly to changes in work environment.
Must be capable of working as part of a team with a collaborative attitude toward meeting shared deadlines and objectives.
Strong understanding of FCC regulations and broadcast industry standards.
Proficiency in scheduling and traffic management software.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a commitment to accuracy.
Passion for public media and the mission of our organization.
Strong technical aptitudes and an ability to pick-up and troubleshoot software-centric workflows with ease and a sense of urgency necessary for success in a modern newsroom are required for success in this role.
