AECOM Technical Services, Inc. has multiple openings in Detroit, MI for a Surface Transportation Project Engineer.
DUTIES: Develop preliminary concepts, comparing parameters such as typical sections, horizontal and vertical alignments, right of way impacts, utility coordination needs, and study-level cost estimates. Calculate various roadway components, including geometric design, superelevation, guardrail, intersection detail grades, and ADA curb ramp grading. Create models of the existing and proposal roadway surfaces, terrains and end conditions for use in design and quantity calculations. Coordinate the design with engineers in adjacent disciplines such as drainage, structures, and traffic signals. Develop the roadway plan set/construction drawings including layouts, profiles, typical sections, utilities, and other required details. Calculate quantities and detailed design cost estimates. Provide quality control by checking and verifying calculations and design work within the team. May telecommute.
Minimum requirements for entry into the position: Employer will accept a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field and 1 year of experience in the job offered or in a transportation engineering-related occupation. Position requires:
1. Roadway design and plan preparation;
2. DOT, AASHTO, and MUTCD design standards;
3. Making routine detailed engineering calculations using software including Excel;
4. OpenRoads Designer and Corridor Modeling tools within OpenRoads;
5. Autoturn for intersection design; and
6. Developing quantity calculations and cost estimates.
