Job Description
The Production Planner participates in the development and refinement of production schedules. The Production Planner directly tracks and analyzes new and ongoing orders, implementing production changes as required, while balancing inventory quantities. This position works closely with procurement to maintain satisfactory levels of raw materials to meet production objectives.
Communicate and advise management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials, and services are provided as needed and to recommend production standards and manufacturing methods.
Confirm materials supply is available to meet demand.
Prepare work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts to support master production schedule, shop load, and inventory requirements.
Coordinate materials movements and sequences between internal work and storage areas and/or outside processing, suppliers, or other division locations to ensure materials are available when needed and are shipped efficiently.
Schedule and expedite the movement of parts to meet customer shipping dates. Project component availability for assembly build schedule and development of monthly sales plan objectives.
Perform inventory adjustments as required to support engineering prototype builds, marketing samples, and cycle count variances.
Advise and assist management in resolving problems concerning overshipment, shortages, engineering changes and cancellation of orders. Monitor component shortage status. May prepare detailed layouts of component shortage requirements on assigned programs.
Manages division inventory relating to records and tracking of materials. Writes production schedules based on customer orders and line capacity. Determines and oversees production and shipment goals. Communicates and coordinates with logistics and procurement when inventory levels drop below production needs.
Adheres to the inventory reduction program by consistently evaluating inventory levels to prevent and/or identify excess.
Utilizing schedules developed by Division Production Control Manager and/or the Material Planning Manager, track sequence and lead times of manufacturing operations.
Performs the required system transactions needed to support the receipt, storage and transferring of material.
-Minimum of 2-4 years experience in inventory and production control.
-4 year college degree in business, engineering, or materials management required with certification in supply chain management preferred.
-Possess analytical and technical skills required to understand business practices and recommend proper automation opportunities.
-Must have advanced computer skills and be able to understand of electronic processing.
-Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all internal and external contacts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of manufacturing resources planning theories, principles, and industry practices. Proficient in standard business application software, manufacturing resource planning systems, and interface operations. Ability to effectively apply continuous improvement methods to the planning function (e.g. pull systems, process mapping, JIT) and related areas. Knowledge of legal, regulatory and internal policy requirements related to production control. Ability to work on a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of the situation or data requires thorough identification of factors and analysis of impact. Ability to work within general work objectives regarding projects and team goals. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and policies and recommend changes to procedures. Ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders, and top management. Ability to respond to significant inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to effectively demonstrate team member competencies and participate in goal-setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.
