Position Summary: The Shelter Coordinator will ensure the smooth functioning of the overnight shelter by scheduling and supervising shelter staff, managing shelter clients, and providing on-call support for unforeseen circumstances.
Essential Responsibilities:
Schedule and supervise shelter staff
Maintain records and statistics for shelter
Provide case management for shelter clients
Work with supervisor to ensure proper reporting to funding agencies
Work with partner agencies, volunteers and staff to ensure quality service and a safe environment for clients
Represent The Salvation Army at community activities, events and training
Fill in, or find alternatives, for staff that may not be available (including overnight shifts)
Arrange transportation for clients needing medical care
Facilitate referrals to area social service agencies
Use de-escalation techniques as needed
Support clients to maintain stable housing
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
High school diploma / GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
College degree in a related field (preferred)
Experience working with low income or homeless individuals
One year supervisory experience required
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Maintain client confidentiality
Learn and adhere to The Salvation Army Social Services Code of Ethics
Adhere to professional codes of ethics as they apply to professional licensing
Understand and adhere to professional boundaries within and outside of the organization
Maintain client confidentiality and obtain appropriate releases of information
Demonstrate a continued effort to increase self-awareness and to better understand other cultures and issues of social justice, and promote racial understanding and reconciliation
Complete Caseworker Certification Program within 120 days of hire
Computer Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
Willingness to learn new software as needed
Certificates and Licenses:
Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
Must have and maintain a current valid driver's license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
