Job Summary
Has 24/7 responsibility for directing the department's activities in a specific or multiple patient care units or specialty areas. Responsibilities include ensuring adequate staffing assignment, development of collaborative patient care plans, patient/family and staff education, quality assurance monitoring and inter-departmental rounds. Acts as the department's liaison and primary contact for the Medical Directors responsible for the units. Monitors patient care variances and develops and initiates process improvement in response to patient safety concerns.
Essential Functions
Responsible for Respiratory Care operations and staffing. Promotes interdepartmental relations / teamwork through participation in patient care rounds with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, etc.
Collaborates on development of patient care plan including but not limited to airway management, acid/base status, oxygenation, nutritional needs, equipment selection and patient safety.
Participation/membership on unit specific Patient Care or QA committees and Process Improvement initiatives (hospital-wide committees when appropriate).
Responsible for orientation of new hires. Evaluate Respiratory staff development through department specific check offs. Provide in service/education for nursing and resident physician upon request. Provide direct patient/family education. May serve as a clinical instructor for respiratory therapy students.
Patient care variance review and follow up.
Participates in ongoing management development and maintains personal competence through Beaumont University classes and seminar attendance, literature reviews, Policy and Procedure development and review.
New equipment evaluation and general equipment maintenance. Input on Capital equipment needs and unit specific operational effects on Revenue and Expense budgets.
Qualifications
Required Associate's Degree Respiratory Therapy
Preferred Bachelor's Degree management, education, business, or related field.
2 years of relevant experience Minimum 2 years' experience working as an RRT. Required
LIC-Respiratory Therapist - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
CRT-Respiratory Therapist Registry - NBRC National Board for Respiratory Care Upon Hire required
CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Upon Hire required Or
CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross Upon Hire required
