Lake County is seeking a self-motivated, hardworking individual for the position of Maintenance Assistant. This position is for the afternoon shift, noon - 9:00pm Monday - Friday and will share in the on-call rotation.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Repairs, installs and maintains plumbing, electrical and mechanical equipment. Performs building maintenance tasks including carpentry, repairing or installing hardware, replacing fuses or washers, unclogging drains, and so forth. Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, which includes completing tests and inspections according to established schedules, and maintaining related records and logs. Performs light grounds keeping such as mowing grass, sweeping walks, trimming shrubs, plowing snow, and hand shoveling snow from entrances. Performs custodial cleaning and servicing of County buildings as requested.
KNOWLEGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to repair and install equipment and machinery; basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, refrigeration and heating trades; and ability to read and understand schematics, blue prints, and operating manuals.
- Knowledge of equipment repair and installation, preventive maintenance, building operations, and basic construction and renovation; and ability to work independently in troubleshooting and diagnosing a wide variety of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical malfunctions.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma or GED recommended with coursework in mechanics and/or property maintenance.
Experience: A minimal of two to three years progressively more responsible experience in maintenance of a large scale operation.
Certifications and/or Licenses: Current and valid Michigan driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle.
Pre-employment drug screen, physical, and criminal background investigation are required.
