EXECUTIVE POSITION TITLE: Corewell Health East Medical Director of Quality

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The role of the Medical Director of Quality (MDQ) is to ensure Corewell Health East's patients receive their care in a safe environment that is free from harm while ensuring them the receipt of the highest quality, evidence-based interventions to lead them to their optimal level of health and functioning. The role serves as the physician developing and supporting quality and clinical standardization of service lines, as well as leading strategic and clinical advancement priorities. The MDQ works directly with and under the direction of the Senior Vice President, Chief Quality & Safety Officer, and in close coordination with the Service Line Chief.
AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Quality, Safety, and Patient Experience for assigned service line
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Align and lead the Quality, Safety, Experience (QSE) infrastructure for Corewell Health East's defined service line.
Provide intense focus on Metrics-that-Matter, working to improve all areas that involve the service line.
Plan and implement the strategic and clinical development goals for the assigned service line under their direction, working with quality and operational teams.
Work closely with Corewell East regional quality teams to oversee the efforts of the region's quality program. Activities include leadership of all quality initiatives undertaken by the health system that relate to the service line.
Work together with other clinical team members to identify quality issues and work towards improvement.
Collaborate to develop clinical protocols and use evidence-based best practices to improve quality outcomes for the designated service line.
Develop and support quality and clinical standardization within the assigned service line.
Partner across regions to strengthen service line quality outcomes.
Impact the continuous advancement of quality in the organization through focus on culture and process improvement.
Lead, motivate and utilize business judgment to move the objectives of the region/system forward.
Serve as a champion for patient safety for the service line. Works in close coordination with the hospital-based Medical Director of Quality. Work to proactively identify risks to patient safety. Impart a "Just Culture." Participate in all relevant Root Cause Analysis meetings. Implement risk reduction strategies. Partner with risk to monitor safety concerns.
Responsible for identifying issues impacting patient experience and working to improve the patient experience for patients within the service line. Actively work to improve patient experience scores within service line.
Participate as needed in region-wide quality meetings and initiatives.
Participate in and champion activities related to physician professionalism within the service line.
Work with CQI champion and regional quality teams for service line related Blue Cross Quality Collaboratives. Partner with regional External Quality team to ensure full and optimal participation in relevant CQI's
