About the unit
Our Labor and Delivery is located a Butterworth hospital. We deliver the most babies of any hospital in Michigan with an average of 8,000 births a year. The unit consists of 28 private birthing suites, 11-bed triage, 3 OR suites, and 5 recovery bays. Our staff consist of RN, Anesthesia RNs, Nurse Techs, OB Techs and Unit Secretaries.

Is responsible for preparing the obstetrical/gynecologic suite, handling obstetrical/gynecologic instruments intraoperatively and maintaining a sterile field for obstetrical/gynecologic procedures. Evaluates changing conditions during the obstetrical/gynecologic procedures and makes appropriate responses to them. Similar to a scrub tech for c-sections. Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Performs basic skills per hospital/unit guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team
Provides direct patient care under the direction of the RN, consistent with hospital policies and procedures and unit-based routines, informing patients about treatments, equipment utilized, and other related activities as appropriate. Collects and monitors data and reports physiological, psychological, socio-cultural and spiritual needs of patients and significant others in coordination with and as delineated by the RN documenting activities within areas of responsibility in an accurate and timely manner.
Prepares case tables with necessary equipment for obstetrical/gynecologic procedures and provides sterile instruments and supplies during obstetrical/gynecologic procedures. Participates in sponge, needle and instrument counts. Assists with preparation, cleaning and re-stocking of delivery tables.
Stocks operation room (OR) suites, patient rooms and sub-sterile areas with supplies/equipment/instruments according to written standard. Maintains a clean work area/unit and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department personnel.
Performs computer entry, schedules tests/procedures, processes orders, and performs other related activities per unit/hospital standard within a reasonable timeframe.
Maintains a clean unit environment/work area and maintains unit equipment including facilitating the repair of malfunctioning equipment with appropriate department/unit personnel. Prepares patient rooms per unit standard.
Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature. Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
Qualifications
Required High School Diploma or equivalent
Requires 1 year of relevant experience in recent, relevant patient care
Previous experience with opening sterile supplies/instrument handling/autoclaving, etc. Preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 90 days of hire
