Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a responsive, organized, detailed orientated SH&E Manager for immediate employment to fulfill the following duties:
Lead Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) efforts in the US West Region for AECOM in one or more business lines
Lead SH&E efforts for AECOM's offices in one or more states in the Midwest
Travel may be required as needed, potentially for up to one month at a time, to serve as Site Safety Officers (SSOs) or Site Safety and Health Officers (SSHOs) at various projects throughout the US West Region.
This position works as a member of a dynamic team of SH&E Managers, Specialists, and Administrators providing support to AECOM Design, Consulting Services operations throughout the western United States. This position reports to the Transportation Business Line Safety Manager and can be located anywhere in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, or Wisconsin. This role will be a hybrid work arrangement to include a combination of remote and travel, with occasional overnight stays that will be required and may account for up to 25% of time and up to one month at a time.
The SH&E Manager must be able to quickly learn and adapt to new situations and challenges, make assessments about resource needs and assist operations leadership in successfully delivering safe and healthy work. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:
Provide visible and active support throughout the region for safety
Monitor and assess safety programs at diverse work sites (highway and aviation construction project sites, construction sites for buildings, medical centers, and sports facilities, among others)
Provide SH&E leadership at various offices within one or more states, including providing local visible leadership, identifying and mentoring office SH&E Representatives, and participating in local safety-focused activities
Identify specific, actionable and feasible solutions to complex safety, health and environmental issues
Lead the incident management process and validate the effectiveness of corrective actions?
Review site and project specific safety plans, training programs, audit protocols, and supporting safety programs (rewards and recognition, security plans etc.)
Recommend changes to policies and procedures that affect the region's operations and employees?
Train and coach all levels of employees in the organizations
Assist operational group in meeting safety performance targets
Conduct safety training, lead meetings and work groups involving various types of workers, ability to adapt with group dynamics and create engaging learning environments
Be available to travel for up to one month at a time to provide on-site safety officer capabilities during project kickoffs or other times. These posts will typically take place while full-time safety officers are being identified or hired for major projects.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Engineering, Geology or other Sciences, or other relevant subject + 8 years of relevant experience in an SH&E role or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Travel with occasional overnight stays will be required and may account for up to 25% of time and up to one month at a time.
Ability to travel to other facilities to perform inventory duties, using a AECOM provided Vehicle.
For positions with driving responsibilities, Motor Vehicle Records are reviewed as part of AECOM's background check process to ensure compliance with the Company's driving standards.
Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required in order to assist on US Army Corps of Engineers projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading geographically and technically diverse organizations
Experience preferable in the transportation, vertical construction, and civil/heavy construction projects
Experience supporting very large construction projects
Professional certification with at least one of the following: CSP, CIH, CHMM, or the ability to obtain one within 18 months.
Meets US ACE SSHO requirements
Experience or demonstrated knowledge of Federal OSHA, USEPA, DOT, EM-385.1.1, Radiation Safety, NFPA 70e, and other regulatory requirements
Experience and ability to meet US ACE EM385 requirements to serve as a Site Safety and Health Officer or ability to obtain within 18 months
Must be able to motivate others, build teams and maintain forward thinking approach
Ability to successfully influence and inspire others to work safely and effectively
Able to form trusted relationships with clients, subcontractors and consultants
Able to prioritize appropriately, be flexible and self-motivated, and respond to request appropriately
Able to work cross functionally in operations, and partner with other internal stakeholders

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $100,000.00 - $125,000.00.
