Job Summary
Under general supervision, functions as a leader over lower level full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees assigned to maintenance, campgrounds, golf courses, athletic fields, and/or other parks. Implements maintenance programs and schedules for mowing, fertilizing, irrigation, seed bed preparation, sodding, field striping, and pest management. Leads and assists a crew in performing maintenance, landscaping and improvement projects. Inspects assigned equipment for proper adjustment and operation. Trains, monitors and evaluates employees using grounds/landscape equipment to minimize mechanical abuse. Maintains written records of maintenance programs, equipment usage, project progress and related information. Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge regarding agricultural methods and techniques and new species varieties. Assists with designing and developing flowering bed plans and placing orders for outdoor planting areas. Installs and/ or leads a crew in the installation and maintenance of flowering plants, outdoor annuals, bedding plants, and herbaceous perennials. Selects mixes and applies horticultural fertilizers and other chemicals in accordance with label directions to correct and prevent identified problems. Develops and implements the regional stewardship program. Performs snow removal and emergency duties on an on-call basis. Responds to inquiries of County employees and the public. Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
Employees of this classification are required to be available for operational problems, equipment emergencies, widespread storms, power outages and other operations and maintenance emergencies as deemed necessary by management after normal working hours, weekends and holidays. Also, employees in this classification are required to be on assigned On-Call and/or On-Call alternate, as required by management.
Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development Test (GED).
- Had had at least four (4) years of increasingly responsible full-time work experience in the installation and maintenance of flowering plants, outdoor annuals, bedding plants and herbaceous perennials, with at least one (1) year in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
- Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license. Out of Country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before the hire date.
- Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
- Successfully complete the six (6) month probationary period.
