The Adolescent Prevention Specialist is responsible for the promotion, development, facilitation and evaluation of youth groups, presentations and programs offered by the Beaumont Teen Health Center-Taylor. These prevention programs are interactive and use educational/team building activities, including but not limited to the arts, role-playing, and implementation of research-based curricula. The primary focus of programming may include: Alcohol, tobacco other drugs and violence prevention; HIV, STD, and pregnancy prevention; self-esteem, anger management, communication and other coping skills. Other duties may include educational presentations in schools, after-school and summer programming, participation in community meetings and events. Adolescent Prevention Specialist may assist in oversight and guidance of Peer Educators.
Essential Functions
Under the direction of the program Supervisor, assist with the planning, scheduling, implementation, and evaluation of all program activities, and trainings on prevention related topics. Activities may include after-school, in-school, community, and/or summer programming.
Proficient with data entry and database organization.
Participates in monitoring program outcomes, outputs and objectives.
a. Maintains and completes program documentation/logs necessary for reporting. Accurately collects client/participant information for the State of Michigan data system.
b. Collects and compiles evaluation measures, including satisfaction of clients/participants to the Program Evaluator for reporting results to funder/s, supervisor, staff, and other stakeholders. Along with the prevention team, uses evaluation results to modify program activities as needed.
May write or assist in writing reports, program plans, and new programming as required by Supervisor.
Assists in recruiting, training, and supervising Peer Educators.
Attends meetings of funder/s and other community events as required. Networking with other agencies, schools and community groups.
Actively participates as a team member, including mentoring new employees if applicable.
Qualifications
Required Associate's Degree or equivalent Associate degree or 4 years prevention experience.
Preferred Bachelor's Degree
2 years of relevant experience A minimum of two years' experience working with youth/adolescents. Required

2 years of relevant experience After 2 years of supervision the Adolescent Prevention Specialist qualifies to apply for the Certification as Prevention Specialist (CPS), with a passing score on the IC&RC exam.
CRT-Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) - MCBAP Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals 2 Yrs required
CRT-Health Education Specialist, Certified (CHES) - NCHEC National Commission for Health Education Certification Upon Hire preferred
