JOB TITLE: Quality Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for planning, directing and implementing quality programsin accordance with company policies and procedures.

Responsible for food safety.
Regular and punctual attendance and physical presence in the workplace.

Occasional travel for work, from 0% up to 33% of the time.
Quality Systems -
Placing product on hold if quality or food safety issue is identified.
Assisting in the development, implementation and monitoring for compliance plant quality programs and procedures to comply with the Quality Procedures Manual, FSMA requirements, regulatory and customer requirements.
Aiding in preparing and delivering training for plant employees and management with respect to GMP's, Allergens, Food Safety Plans, Hazard Analysis, Bio Security, Record Keeping, and other key quality systems.
Reviewing and analyzing quality data for trends or problems; including leading cross-functional teams to monitor and improve quality results.
Identifying and coordinating the resolution of production related quality problems, including initiating root cause and corrective action investigations for customer complaints and product failures, downgrades, and reclassifications.
Preparing and supporting regulatory and customer audits.
Act has SQF practitioner back-up.
Laboratory Processes -
Taking and preparing lab samples for testing, including prioritizing samples according to plant and business needs, preparing samples for shipment to other labs and customers as needed and proper disposal of samples.
Setting up test controls, including coordinate testing and reporting of results with plant production, R & D and outside company plants or facilities, troubleshooting and related communication to supervisor and key stakeholders of "out of specification" results, completing required documentation for samples, results, incoming products, outgoing or finished products and all test results.
Overseeing the collection of data and reviewing and analyzing the data for trends or problems, including preparing and distributing the summary of the data to management and assigned customers according to schedule.
Preparing testing instrumentation for analysis of various incoming products and finished products.
Performing lab quality procedures as required for laboratory best practice and maintain documentation.
Preparing media and reagent solutions as needed.
Acting as a technical resource to appropriate stakeholders, including new lab technicians, operation supervisors and plant management, to address and resolve inquiries, complaints, and problems.
Assisting in training new lab technicians and hourly production employees as needed.
Cleaning, sterilizing, calibrating, and maintaining lab equipment and glassware according to policy and procedures, and maintaining operating condition records.
Organizing and maintaining lab supplies according to procedures, ordering as needed.
Performing routine round robin tests with other laboratories to ensure technician accuracy and laboratory uniformity.
Conducting sampling and testing, taking appropriate actions as necessary, for environmental pathogens and water testing.
Following and complying with all safety requirements and Good Laboratory Practices.
Providing backup coverage as needed for other lab personnel for absences such as vacation.
Sanitation Processes -
Aiding in the preparing of standard work and delivering training for plant employees involved in cleaning and sanitation to drive awareness, troubleshooting skills and compliance to quality standards.
Monitoring cleaning performance and collaborate with production to improve results when needed.
Assisting in the development, implementation and monitoring for effectiveness and compliance a plant wide Master Sanitation Schedule. Assisting plants with meeting state and federal regulatory agency compliance.
Coordinating with cleaning chemical suppliers to evaluate existing cleaning programs, and ensure proper programs are in place.
