GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Vice President of Surgical Services in conjunction with the Medical Director, Surgical Services HFHS, coordinates, plans, organizes and directs all Surgical Services strategic direction, quality improvement and business operating activities for Henry Ford Health System Surgical Services. Inclusive of: Operating Rooms, Family waiting areas, Pre-Operative Holding Units, Post Anesthesia Care Units, Outpatient Surgical Centers / Ambulatory Surgical Centers, the Pre-anesthesia testing units (PAT), Surgical Scheduling, and the Sterile Processing Units.
Additonally, the Vice President of Surgical Services develops systematic approaches that align overall surgical strategic and operational goals. Works in a dyad relationship with theMedical Director of Surgical Servicesand coordinates Surgical Services planning, marketing, operations, quality initiatives, regulatory compliance and system integration in collaboration with independent surgeon groups as well as other surgical delivery/network entities, and functional support services to ensure quality of care provided to patients and families. This position will report directly to the Execuitve Vice President and CEO of HFHS.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Leads developmental teams of physicians, managers, team members and operations personnel in the planning and development of assigned services and products.
In conjunction with the Medical Director of Surgical Services, leads a project management and continuous process improvement team to ensure optimal efficiency and utilization of surgical services across the enterprise.
Develops, monitors and analyzes outcomes of Surgical Services business plans. Acts as a change agent, being able to articulate and effect change in people, processes and technology in order to achieve Henry Ford Health System Surgical Services strategy.
Supports a shared practice model of leadership in conjunction with the Medical Director of Surgical Services and collaborates with hospital leaders from the Henry Ford Medical Group, independent surgeon groups, service lines, and markets.
Develops, in collaboration with the Director of System Surgical Services, strategic priorities and tactics to create capacity for growth of surgical services system-wide, researches best practices for ORs of the future and designs to leapfrog our competition.
Guides the development of strategic plans, goals and metrics to achieve individual hospital and ASC fiscal stewardship, quality, safety, professional practice and patient experience vision. Oversees the development and implementation of the fiscal and capital planning for the system wide assets in relation to surgical services. Assures adjustments are made to support the fiscal success of HFH overall. Ensures collaboration with clinical, administrative, and corporate leaders throughout the organization to improve Surgical Services performance and operating efficiencies pertaining to labor productivity, capacity utilization, supply expense optimization and charge capture .
Standardizes and aligns quality and safety metrics - establishes system standards and practices that support a provision of optimal peri-operative outcomes and safety for both patients and employees .
Gathers continuous intelligence on Surgical Services performance, customer perception, industry trends and new problems and opportunities. Leads the development of action plans based on this data working with the individual site leaders.
Collaborates with the Medical Directors, medical staff, nursing staff, other departments and/or professional groups to develop, implement and evaluate programs and services that support safe, quality patient care delivery and effective utilization of workforce, facilities and equipment.
Focuses on recruiting, retaining, and training of high performing clinical and non-clinical support team members
Develops, maintains and evaluates a professional practice environment that empowers and supports staff. Encourages shared decision-making, accountability and just culture.
Assures the development of policies and procedures which support evidence based professional practice, quality, safety and regulatory agency compliance.
Collaborates with the Chief Clinical Officer HFH, the Chief Quality Officer HFH, the Chief Nursing Officer HFH, and other executives to ensure the highest quality patient care standards and business strategic initiatives are accomplished. Promotes national best practice tactics to achieve objectives, evaluate impact and ROI of current tactics, monitor and enhance the quality of analytic tools, and reviews administrative expenses.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Master's degree in Healthcare or Business-related field
Ten years of progressive leadership experience ideally in both clinical and business venues
Experience with Professional Practice development, fiscal planning, resource allocation
Experience building effective multidisciplinary teams and developing positive work relationships with a diverse group of professionals
Experience working in an organization of size and complexity comparable to Henry Ford Hospital
Excellent written, verbal communication skills
Proven track record of achieving strategic goals- results oriented strategic thinker
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Strong business acumen
Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
