Position Summary:
Under the guidance of the Senior Director of Accounting and Finance, the Accountant is responsible for various accounting functions including month end journal entries, account reconciliations, payroll processing, assisting with year end financial statement and benefit plan audits.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process DSO's biweekly payroll, in accordance with all applicable federal, state and
local regulations.
- Process biweekly contributions and related reporting of FSA and HSAs, 403(b), union dues,
pension & health benefits.
- Record payroll related journal entries.
- Perform month-end reconciliations of certain balance sheet accounts.
- Reconcile the sales and use tax accounts.
- Administer the musician's instrument insurance and instrument loan programs.
- Assist in annual financial and benefit plan audits and manage annual WC audit.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong Excel knowledge including pivot tables and VLOOKUP’s.
- Ability to act independently, take initiative, and meet changing priorities.
- Successful experience working in, and contributing to, a collaborative, team environment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working for a nonprofit organization using BlackBaud Financial Edge.
- Experience processing payroll.
- Demonstrated experience and investment in issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Physical Requirement: This role primarily works in an office environment, and frequently has prolonged periods of sitting and looking at a computer screen.
