The City of Ionia is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Operator - Department of Utilities. Duties include pumping and processing water for distribution, waste water treatment, maintaining related records and files as required by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE), assisting the public, and other duties as assigned. Work hours include weekdays, weekends and holidays, along with occasional on-call duties.
Position reports to the Director of Utilities. Requires graduation from high school or GED and ability to become licensed by EGLE in water production, water distribution, and/or waste water treatment. Minimum experience of two years in construction, plumbing or related field preferred. Starting wage for an operator-in-training (no license) per the collective bargaining agreement: $19.70 per hour; $28.00 after two years. With license, operator starting wage is $22.83; $29.10 after two years, plus annual licensure bonus(es). Must obtain licensure within four years of hire.
