Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Non-Profit Accountant to join our client's team. The ideal Accountant will have a strong background in accounting principles and practices, as well as a passion for supporting the financial management of non-profit organizations. The Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial activities of our organization, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing accurate and timely financial reports.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management, the board of directors, and external stakeholders. Ensure accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and any other relevant regulations.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with department heads to develop and manage the organization's annual budget. Monitor budget performance and provide regular updates to management. Assist in forecasting future financial needs and trends.
Grants Management: Oversee the financial aspects of grants, including budget development, expenditure tracking, and reporting to grantors. Ensure compliance with grant requirements and regulations.
Accounts Payable and Receivable: Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and billing. Reconcile accounts and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow and liquidity needs to ensure the organization's financial stability. Develop strategies to optimize cash management and investment opportunities.
Audit and Compliance: Coordinate annual audits and reviews conducted by external auditors. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements, including IRS filings for non-profit organizations.
Financial Systems and Controls: Implement and maintain effective financial systems, policies, and internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making processes and identify areas for improvement or cost-saving opportunities. Provide recommendations to management based on financial insights.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting in a non-profit environment.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and Microsoft Excel.
Strong understanding of GAAP and non-profit accounting principles.
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to communicate financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
Experience with grant accounting and reporting is highly desirable.
Knowledge of tax regulations relevant to non-profit organizations.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
