EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to probationary period
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under direction, plans, assigns and oversees the work of Protective Service Officers; participates in interviewing, selecting and training of Protective Service Officers; compiles statistical and informational data and prepares related reports, letters and necessary documents as directed; performs duties of and provides assistance to Protective Service Officers as necessary.
CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME:
This is a part-time (up to 25 hours per week) position. The starting time for this position could be as early as 6:00 a.m. and the end time could be as late as 9:00 p.m., depending on assigned location.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans, assigns and oversees the work of Protective Service Officers and operations.
Participates in interviewing, selecting and training Protective Service Officers in conjunction with Human Resources and Labor Relations.
Maintains and procures all equipment related to the performance of job duties.
Implements and explains department policies and regulations to County employees and the general public.
Completes various reports, letters and/or documents as required.
Greets individuals desiring to enter a County operated facility and informs them that they must be screened prior to entry.
Operates various electronic control and scanning devices in order to screen individuals entering a County operated facility for weapons and/or other forbidden items.
Observes assigned areas in order to detect and prevent unauthorized or inappropriate activities.
Prevents inappropriate activities and/or behavior and intervenes when inappropriate activities and/or behavior are observed.
De-escalates unruly and/or disruptive behavior.
Performs the functions of a Protective Service Officer as needed.
Operates an automobile in order to perform assigned duties.
If possessing a valid Concealed Pistol License (CPL): Participates in and successfully completes required firearms training as designated by the Sheriff as well as meets and maintains firearms qualification and standards in order to carry a weapon.
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in law enforcement, public safety, or corrections
Preferred Education and Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of previous experience as a Protective Service Officer, or related experience
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
Preferred Licenses or Certifications
- Valid Concealed Pistol License (CPL)
