The Automation Technician Position
The Automation Technician will be responsible for integrating automation into both new and existing production lines that handshake with SW machines and will have a balance between both mechanical and electrical duties during the builds. The Automation Technician will have direct involvement with all facets of the build along with influence on design improvements and processes and will work with engineering, project management, service, and operations to ensure the Company delivers the best possible product to the customers.
The Automation Technician performs a variety of duties, including, but not limited to:
- Read and interpret mechanical prints, electrical prints, layouts, and various other specifications pertaining to automation systems.
- Work with the Operations Manager to plan the assembly and the installation of automation systems
- Wire 460VAC power distribution
- Wire proximity switches and photo eyes back to field I/O blocks
- Mounting of field devices, I/O blocks, wireway, EOAT
- Adjust switches as necessary
- Troubleshooting of mechanical systems
- Pneumatic plumbing
- Terminate interface and high voltage cables in main panel
- Run ethernet / fieldbus cables
- Mechanical build of Gantry’s, Regrip Stands, Nests, etc...
- Troubleshoot safety circuits
- Operate forklifts, cranes, and other material handling equipment.

Targeted Experience, Skills, and Abilities
- Post-secondary diploma, degree, or certificate of qualification in electrical work.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical work and machine building experience.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical prints, electrical prints, layouts, sketches, and specifications pertaining to automation systems.
- Strong mechanical systems knowledge
- Ability to make calculations in English and Metric measurements.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 35%.
- Strong computer navigation skills for documentation and communication
- German speaking ability preferred, but not required
