Job Summary
The Senior Financial Counselor functions as a group leader by following up on routing and special patient cases. In addition to the functions of the Financial Resource Advisor, the Senior FRA assists the Supervisor with day-to-day operational aspects of the department and completes assigned projects.
Essential Functions
Takes a lead role and acts as a mentor, resource and consultant regarding account issues.
Participates in special projects, as requested, and provides feedback to leadership in the development, implementation and review of policies/procedures/guidelines and department processes.
Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
Conducts in-person interviews and consults with patients and their families to resolve financial barriers including, but not limited to, postponement of elective services. This may also include travel to multiple locations or home visits.
Acts as the liaison between the patient and intake, registration or clinical staff, as well as outside organizations, on matters related to assisting the patient with securing a funding source, including but not limited to Medicaid, Medicare, auto, workers' compensation, COBRA, crime victims' compensation, access to insurance exchange, liability coverage and grants.
Participates in continuing education in order to stay current on relevant patient funding sources and other industry trends.
Responds to patient inquiries and provides on-site consultation and support as a liaison for billing, collections and denials management questions as needed. This may include collecting patient deposits or setting up payment arrangements and acting as the liaison between the price estimator and the patient.
Evaluates and is the decision maker for charity care including Propensity to Pay, completion of Financial Assistance applications and other related materials, forms or documentation.
Qualifications
Required High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Associate's Degree Customer Service, Health Services, Health care Administration, Information Technology, Business or Accounting
5 years of relevant experience health care revenue cycle or equivalent, health care billing, customer service, medical billing/third party payers, patient registration, collections, medical terminology, insurance verification, transplant financial counseling Required
CRT-Application Counselor (CAC) - CMC Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services 60 Days required
