Blue Wave America is seeking experienced field directors to lead our 2024 rural turnout program in key battleground states.
State Directors will recruit, train, and manage a team of regional directors to execute a distributed calling and texting program as well as a relational organizing and events program. You will create, implement, and oversee these programs to drive daily voter contact, increase relational capacity building, and facilitate volunteer-led community events while ensuring the optimal day-to-day functioning of all programs.
The ideal candidate has a proven history of creating, guiding, and mentoring teams to achieve high goals in a virtual workspace, with a track record of creating and implementing successful voter contact, volunteer recruitment, and relational organizing programs. In addition, candidates should have a passion for organizing in rural communities.
This role will be based in Michigan and will require a low amount of travel for in-person work. Compensation begins at $6,000 per month, paid in installments twice monthly, with higher pay available based on experience. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. This temporary position ends on November 30, 2024.
Responsibilities:
- Create and oversee flexible campaign systems and training to ensure all staff have the resources they need to do their jobs effectively, including hiring, issue reporting, and onboarding.
- Support the recruiting, hiring, and personnel management of program staff in conjunction with a team of regional directors within the state.
- Setting and defining goals for recruitment, voter contact, and relational organizing as well as coaching and managing regional directors to hit assigned goals.
- Build a streamlined system for managing phone call and text campaigns, and hold regional directors accountable for running high-energy, high-output phone banks and text banks.
- Create and oversee a comprehensive relational organizing programming calendar and work with regional directors to structure overall relational programming.
- Design a clear volunteer experience and direct regional teams to recruit, cultivate, and escalate volunteers at every level of engagement.
- Manage the program’s budget and spending in your state, and provide key stakeholders with a view of budgetary realities.
- Develop and enforce statewide data best practices.

Qualifications:
- At least 3 cycles of campaign experience, with at least one of those in a statewide operations role.
- Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and a passion for organizing people.
- Strong people management abilities, virtual management skills, and substantial previous management experience.
- Clear experience building systems and structures for staff and volunteers, experience in community organizing preferred.
- No task is too small, you are a team player willing to roll up your sleeves!
- Ready and prepared to work in a fast-paced environment potentially including evenings and weekends and willing to be flexible with responsibilities over time.
- Experience managing a 6-figure budget.
- A strong commitment to electing Democrats up and down the ballot.
Willing to relocate to Michigan, experience organizing in Michigan preferred. Candidates with rural organizing experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
