In this position...
Master Black Belts are the corporate body of knowledge and expertise on all Consumer Driven 6-Sigma matters. They are responsible for the entire corporation, including their home organizations and the Corporate Office. It is expected that the majority of a Master Black Belt's work will be directed at the home-organization level and include the roles and responsibilities listed below. Occasionally, Master Black Belts may be called upon to assist the Corporate Office or their peers in other organizations.
MBBs are expected to fill three roles: teach, coach, and deliver results.
Teach/mentor Black Belts and Green Belts in Define/Measure/Analyze/Improve/Control (DMAIC) and/or Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) problem solving methodologies through their project completion, BB Certification, and/or class-room instruction.
Provide technical assistance to organizations and assist Project Champions, Process Owners and Black Belts with project selection and scoping.
Lead large projects and deliver results.
These roles are designed to develop the MBB to be leaders (teach and coach), to be engaged (direct projects for quality improvements), and to have accountability (deliver quality and productivity improvements that positively impact the corporate performance drivers).
What you'll do...
Teach/mentor Black Belt Candidates and Certified Black Belts:
Conduct DMAIC Black Belt Training sessions.
Conduct DFSS Training sessions as appropriate.
Coach and mentor Black Belts on proper statistical tool usage and DMAIC or DFSS disciplines to complete projects that deliver positive business results.
Conduct refresher sessions for Black Belt Candidates prior to the Black Belt DMAIC exam.
Review and concur on proper tool usage for projects submitted for Black Belt Certification.
Work with other Master Black Belts, outside experts and business unit leadership to identify, design and deliver key program tools (hardware, software and methodology) and training programs that have corporate-wide operational excellence application.
Provide technical assistance to organizations and assist Project Champions, Process Owners and Black Belts with project selection and scoping:
Coach and mentor Senior Leaders within an organization to deploy Consumer Driven 6-Sigma, including DFSS. Develop appropriate metrics to measure success.
Provide technical assistance by sitting on the appropriate OCM and assist in developing the big "Y's" for the activity. Provide management with project status updates, feedback and appropriate reporting on key process-focused objectives.
Provide assistance and be a resource to plants, functional departments, and business units in identifying, planning and implementing Consumer Driven 6-Sigma projects.
Assist the Project Champions with project scoping. Provide additional training where appropriate.
Review Black Belt projects. Coach and mentor the Black Belt Candidates in proper tool usage and team dynamics. Provide or organize additional training when needed.
Provide liaison within and between other business unit locations on operational excellence best practices. Develop plans to address lessons learned and to transfer knowledge across organizations with the activity.
Plan and organize recognition or other events.
Work with Black Belts and other Master Black Belts to maximize Consumer Driven 6-Sigma understanding and improvement efforts.
Lead Large Projects:
Assist Champions in identifying key projects that will provide the optimum benefits to customers and business results.
Determine strategies to use Consumer Driven 6-Sigma methods to address complex organization customer satisfaction issues.
Provide active and aggressive leadership to multiple Black Belts in problem-solving efforts on mega projects to improve customer satisfaction, reduce cost and improve cycle time.
Provide technical assistance and training where appropriate to assist in project completion.
Provide feedback to the Champions on Black Belt performance.
Provide management with project status updates, feedback and appropriate reporting on key process-focused objectives.
You'll have...
Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
5+ years of experience as a certified 6 Sigma Black Belt.
5+ years of automotive industry experience.
Even better, you may have...
Strong working knowledge of statistical tools and demonstration of their application to problem solving including: Experimental Design (DOE), Reliability Methods, Process Control, etc.
Highly proficient in the use of 6-Sigma software/computer tools including Excel, Minitab, etc.
Demonstrated teaching skills in a formal classroom environment including Green Belt Training.
Ability to deliver strategic/tactical presentations/discussions to executive management.
Capable of functioning as a "change agent" for implementing organizational vision and behavior modifications.
Capable of formulating innovative approaches and visualizing strategic options.
