Position Summary: The Youth Specialist for Discipleship works to engage, encourage, and equip young people and leaders through discipleship in the Great Lakes Division, while also assisting in the candidate process.
Essential Responsibilities:
Field Programming
Provide oversight to Junior Soldiers, Sunday School, Corps Cadets and Cradle Roll.
Oversee and maintain registrations and databases concerning Junior Soldiers/Corps Cadets, and leaders.
Regularly monitor all membership and attendance statistical trends, review reports, and prepare higher awards and special recognitions for Junior Soldiers and Corps Cadets.
Serve as the contact point for Orange Material and/or authorized Sunday School curriculum.
Research, compile, and disseminate new youth discipleship resources.
Offer personal discipling guidance for mentors, providing resources for follow-up and seeker counseling.
Assist locations to improve Sunday School, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, and Cradle Roll programs.
Actively meet with and disciple paid and volunteer youth workers.
Divisional Programming
Plan and coordinate with the Divisional Youth Secretary (DYS) the bi-annual Junior Soldier Rally events, Jamboree, annual Young Adult Retreat and other special events.
Work with the DYS and Youth Department team to plan and coordinate Youth Councils.
Work with DYS and Youth Department team to plan and coordinate Youth Leader Weekend and other leadership training opportunities.
Assist in transportation, set-up and tear-down of all divisional events as assigned.
Provide oversight, planning, and coordination to new divisional youth discipleship opportunities.
Summer Camping
Must live at Echo Grove Camp & Retreat Center during summer staff orientation and all encampments.
Plan and oversee XP3MS, XP3HS, and Spark camps.
Assist with staff orientation.
Act in the camper disciplinary chain as needed.
Participate in all encampments, assisting spiritually, programmatically, and administratively as assigned.
Territorial Events
Promote and recruit for character building and candidates centered territorial events.
Coordinate transportation logistics for student and young adult-oriented events.
Attend events where the schedule does not conflict with divisional events.
Corps Engagement
Provide support for corps by conducting visits, presentations, and trainings.
Intentionally disciple youth leaders.
Assist with corps coaching and review visits.
Digital Engagement
Oversee, coordinate, and promote Salvation Army Gaming opportunities with both a divisional and unit scope.
Help maintain Youth Department website and social media engagement.
Help create new avenues for digital engagement.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a ministry field, or 5 to 6 years of ministry related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Be an active salvationist in good standing.
Maintain strict confidentiality
Computer Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
Willingness to learn new software as needed
Certificates and Licenses:
Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
Must have and maintain a current valid driver's license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
