Job Summary
This role serves as a subject matter expert on a variety of accreditation and compliance activities essential to Graduate Medical Education (GME)'s mission. Maintains a high-level and comprehensive understanding of national accreditation regulations and hospital policies, exercising a high degree of initiative and independent judgment. Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills in applying a detailed knowledge of the responsibilities, functions, and underlying management structure of the GME office. Provides a positive presence for graduate medical education when interfacing with internal and external customers.
Monitors and oversees all ACGME accredited GME training programs and accreditation requirements. Responsible for policy development, providing necessary policy interpretation and advises appropriately. Administers and leads recruiting processes including the onboarding and offboarding of residents and fellows and serves as a designated Training Program Liaison.
Essential Functions
Acts as the lead technical expert in institutional and accreditation and compliance activities. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of compliance systems and processes from accreditation and regulatory agencies, such as the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Reports to Director for GME and collaborates with the Directors of GME, the Designated Institutional Official (DIO), and Chair of Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) to facilitate the sponsoring institution's oversight responsibilities. Establishes collaborative relationships with programs to promote continuous quality improvement.
Interprets and analyzes ACGME institutional, common, and specialty program requirements, specialty board requirements, and institutional policies and procedures and makes recommendations. Monitors outcomes and processes relative to the institution's and program's accreditation and develops systems and tools to ensure continuous accreditation.
Reviews ACGME documentation required for institutional and programs accreditation and develops system for preparing for site visits and works with programs to produce clear, accurate, and complete documents. Reviews information updates made by program directors and coordinators in the various GME related national systems (e.g., ACGME, WebAds, FREIDA, etc.). Guide program directors and coordinators to ensure posting of correct information.
Helps create policies and procedures and monitor implementation. Advises and/or resolves residents/fellows' and programs' matters as they relate to institutional policies and procures.
Serves as the Training Program Liaison. Ensures that the sponsoring institutions and J-1 trainees remain in compliance with federal regulations of the J-1 Exchange Visitor Sponsorship Program. Initiates and manages the sponsorship application process. Serves as the GME's liaison with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), legal department and Human Resources to obtain and renew J-1 and immigration related documentation for residents/fellows.
Participates in professional development to continuously improve knowledge and skills and disseminates learnings. Serves as a coach/mentor to new program and institutional coordinators to ensure successful onboarding and understanding of requirement and processes.
Qualifications
Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
3 years of GME experience. Required
5 years of GMW experience. Preferred
