Salary Range: $58,307.00 - $87,373.00 Annually
Representative Job Duties
- Perform field reviews as necessary and administer the valuation of real property, including residential, commercial, or industrial property, or personal property with the City of Southfield to determine fair market value for all properties within the classification.
- Clerical work and data entry as necessary, using BS&A Equalizer Software, for real and/or personal property.
- Maintain and update records and sketches for residential and/or commercial properties using APEX Sketch Software.
- Aid the Supervisor, Deputy Assessor or Assessor in preparation of equalization studies, including land value and Economic Condition Factor (ECF) studies, and maintain backups of the work for audits.
- Communicate with residents, governmental agencies, appraisers, real estate agents, and other industry professionals.
- Performs special projects and all other duties as required by the Assessor and General Property Tax Act.
Job Requirements - As Determined By the City Of Southfield
- High school graduate or equivalent, preferably supplemented by training in the building and construction trades and/or college level courses in Real Estate Property Appraisal.
- Applicant must be able to furnish proof of Michigan State Tax Commission (STC) MAAO(3) Michigan Advanced Assessing Officer Certification at the time of application.
- MAAO (3) certification plus 1 year of recent full-time work experience in property appraisal is preferred.
- The City of Southfield will also consider individuals with their MCAO(2) certification that have more than 5 years of experience. Candidates with MCAO(2) must be aware that they will have two years from the date of appointment to obtain a valid MAAO(3) certificate from the Michigan State Tax Commission (STC).
- Working knowledge of BS&A and APEX is required.
- Must have extensive public contact experience and highly effective communication skills.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet the City’s driving record standards.
