Engineer – Application Engineering sought by Schaeffler Group USA Inc. in Troy, MI.
Position Duties: Serve as the primary engineering contact to the customer and the Project Execution Plan 2 (PEP2) and Project Execution Plan 3 (PEP3) product development lead responsible for delivering projects within quality, timing and cost (QTC) requirements as identified in the project charter for the following products: Rotor Shaft, Variable Can Timing, Hydraulic Lash-Adjuster, Roller Finger Follower and Oscillating Alternating Pulley. Interface with customer engineering teams to ensure projects are meeting customer expectations and identifying new opportunities to help drive new business. Define specifications Statement of Requirement (SOR), product performance requirements through customer interaction. Liaise with the Product Development Engineer to define concept and product base data to fit customer applications. Properly define components to ensure its performance and durability in the system, including assembly at customer’s plant, vehicle use, and repair/service. Support discussions around warranty complaints. Release Engineering Design and Development (EDD) delivery drawings for prototypes, samples and production and customer Engineering Design and Construction (EDC) drawings for sample and production. Initiate and conduct System- Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (SFMEA) with Customer Engineers. Support development Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) with the Development Engineer. Complete and sign off the Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) together with the customer and the Development Engineer. Review Return Parts Analysis (RPA) for performance/issues and initiate and conduct root cause analysis while working with the Product Development Engineer and quality functions. Report project status to Schaeffler management as related to QTC and the project budget. Track product and budget changes and monitor to ensure tasks remain on track. Ensure all documents are uploaded and released by the project team as necessary to meet objectives and ensure Schaeffler meets ASPICE requirements.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in the position offered, as an Application Engineer or a related position. Three (3) years of experience must include: Managing projects and product design development for engine and power train components in commercial vehicles and heavy-duty applications; APQP requirements; Product Data Management programs such as Windchill for product data management; conducting System-Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (SFMEA); conducting Design-Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA); and releasing Engineering Design and Development (EDD) delivery drawings for prototypes, samples, and production of at least three of the following products: Tensioners, Decouplers, Belts, Rotor Shaft, Roller finger Follower, or Oscillating Alternating Pulley. Travel required to various and unanticipated Schaeffler locations and client sites throughout the U.S., 20%. Telecommuting permitted two (2) days per week.
