Summary

The Donor Relations and Stewardship Officer reports to the Vice Chancellor of University Advancement. You will be responsible for gift acknowledgement communications including writing, generating, and sending acknowledgement letters, entering gifts into the gift log, and following department procedures for reporting gifts to campus units.

You will also be responsible for donor recognition programs and events, and identifying new forms of recognition meaningful to donors. You will partner with financial aid to ensure the accurate administration of scholarship recognition reports and other tasks related to scholarship donors' recognition. The entire focus of this position is to make donors feel valued increasing their likelihood of continued support. Must have the ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekend and evening hours.

Responsibilities*

Stewardship functions

• Promptly enter gifts in the gift log system ensuring accuracy as to donor, amount of gift and gift designation
• Process checks, credit card transactions, gifts of securities, and gifts in kind
• Prepare appropriate reports for reconciliation of gifts
• Write acknowledgement letters to be signed by appropriate individuals and ensure appropriate content of letters with meaningful messaging
• Work with gift officers and leadership to establish and contribute to the creation of individualized stewardship plans in DART for leadership donors
• Update constituent records in DART ensuring accuracy
• Ensure Flint campus operates in compliance with University of Michigan Stewardship Guidelines
• Represent UM Flint at stewardship-related meetings and other Office of University Development activities

Donor relations functions

• Manage scholarship donor relations through annual reporting of awarding activity in collaboration with appropriate financial aid and finance office staff
• Design annual donor event(s) collaborating with appropriate department staff to execute
• Operate in complete confidentiality protecting the interests of the donor and UM-Flint
• Remain current on best practices in donor relations and stewardship

Administrative support

• Participate in and support development events as assigned
• Establish new funds and process them through established University procedures
• Manage endowment and endowed gift reporting. Produce other tracking and progress reports as requested by Vice Chancellor
• Provide back up to Advancement administrative assistants
• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

• Bachelor's degree
• One or more years' of relevant experience
• Demonstrated competence in complying with detailed and complex rules and regulations
• High level of comfort when dealing with individuals and their money, and an ability to maintain confidentiality when working with these individuals
• Understanding of and passion for the mission, vision, and values of UM-Flint
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products

Work Schedule

Hybrid:
A hybrid work schedule (some days on campus and some days working remotely) will be available for this position once you have completed training and onboarding. However, this is subject to change based on the duties of the position and the needs of the department.

Background Screening
