SMX is hiring a Senior Solutions Architect with a focus on supporting highly regulated environments including Impact Level 5 (IL5) and FedRAMP standards. The role involves crafting technical solutions for high-profile client engagements, particularly in regulated industries. Candidates should have a strong understanding of cloud computing and cybersecurity at an IL4/5 level and FedRAMP Moderate High, along with expertise in DoD Cloud Computing Security Requirements Guide (SRG) policies and SCCA. The position requires collaborating closely with clients to ensure their missions are supported by secure, resilient, and compliant cloud architectures. This position is remote supporting a Herndon, VA based team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop and enforce strategies for securing cloud environments to meet or exceed security requirements for controlled unclassified information (CUI), in compliance with government requirements including Impact Level 5 (IL5) and FedRAMP High.
Lead security assessments and authorization activities to obtain and maintain Authority to Operate (ATO) for services in IL5 and FedRAMP High
Serve as a subject matter expert on advanced cloud technologies within IL5 and FedRAMP High
Collaborate with teams to incorporate secure software development practices and standards.
Participate in strategic planning to align cloud strategies with organizational goals.
Mentor junior staff, implement efficiency improvements, and lead architecture discussions.
Collaborate with cybersecurity teams, establish cloud governance policies, and provide training on cloud best practices.
Engage with cloud service providers, develop Proof of Concept (PoC) for new technologies, and maintain AWS and Azure certifications.
Required Experience:
15+ years of technology experience
Mastery of Cloud Services and technology
Proficiency in cybersecurity principles, cloud security best practices, and relevant compliance standards (e.g., DoD Cloud Computing SRG, NIST frameworks, FedRAMP)
Deep understanding of SCCA, including designing solutions for VDSS in AWS
Experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) in highly regulated
Understanding of DoD's Impact Level standards, especially IL5, and related security controls
Understanding of the Federal Governments standards, especially FedRAMP High, and related security controls
Experience in audit preparation, documenting compliance, and developing security policies
Proficiency with CI/CD and container management tools
Ability to break down technical architecture into tasks and plans
Experience in writing comprehensive Statements of Work and Proposals
Customer-focused attitude with strong customer interaction skills and professionalism
Leadership qualities for guiding junior team members
Willingness to contribute to organization growth through sales, interviewing, and customer relationships
Experience in agile environments and Scrum familiarity
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
Ability to travel up to 25%
Direct experience in architecting/designing environments for IL5 and FedRAMP High or similar high-security cloud environments.
Track record of leading complex projects in regulated or government sectors, meeting strict security and compliance requirements
Technical degree or additional 6 years' relevant experience in lieu of degree
