The Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center seeks a college student or recent graduate interested in increasing community involvement and awareness of nature through environmental education and community programming. Our dynamic environmental education program offers private field trips for school and scout groups, summer youth programs, as well as public programs such as scheduled classes and events.
Applicants must be committed to environmental stewardship, environmental education for all ages, and providing a great program experience for children and adults. This is an exciting opportunity for future educators and youth programmers, as it will provide hands-on experience with curriculum development, program presentation, event development and coordination, classroom management, and teaching biology.
This position, which is approximately 24 hours per week, runs from the beginning of June to end of August and would be based out of the Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center located in Shelby Township, Michigan. Schedule will vary weekly depending on programming with some evenings and weekends required. Start and end date can be flexible. This is a paid hourly position at $13.59/hr with no benefits.

- Ensure a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for our diverse audience.
- Provide careful and attentive supervision of our program participants.
- Care for our educational animals.
- Maintain and organize equipment used by the education and stewardship programs.
- Aid in the development, planning, and presentation of education programs and public events.
- Setting up prior to a program and cleaning up afterwards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
