General Purpose of Job:
Develops and implements occupational therapy treatment plans for assigned patients; evaluates and modifies patient care treatments as appropriate.

Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Completes initial occupational therapy evaluations and develops a treatment plan of care for assigned patients.
- Performs Occupational Therapy Evaluation and treatment of patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. (Typically, the therapist will spend approximately 90% of their time in the outpatient setting and 10% of their time in the inpatient setting).
- Coordinates acquisition/ creation of needed adaptive devices, durable medical equipment and orthoses.
- Proficiency in various upper extremity orthotic fabrication. (Examples may be requested upon interview.)
- Provides occupational therapy treatment to restore or maintain patient’s ADL skills.
- Documents patient treatments, initial evaluation, progress notes and discharge summaries in a timely manner and in accordance with Hospital policies and insurance requirements.
- Performs occupational therapy re-evaluations to assess patient progress; recommends changes to the treatment plan of care as appropriate.
- Communicates regularly with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, patient families, insurance companies and others regarding patient’s treatment and progress.
- Instructs and teaches patients in safe transfers, activities of daily living, correct ambulation, therapeutic exercises and correct usage of exercise equipment; trains family members and caregivers on various therapeutic procedures and home exercises.
- Continuously seeks to improve skills related to patient care through education and other learning opportunities as needed to serve a diverse patient population.
- Attends staff meetings and in-service programs as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

General Requirements |
Current Michigan Occupational Therapist License Current BLS Certification CHT preferred |
Work Experience |
• Prefer OT skilled in development of orthotics/ application of splinting who has either attained their CHT or is working toward their CHT. |
Education |
Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
• Proficiency in orthotic fabrication. • Knowledge of occupational therapy theory and techniques • Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and hospital policies related to the provision of rehabilitation services including HIPAA confidentiality and JCAHO mandates • Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate, orally and in written form, with patients, families, physicians, health care professionals, and insurance companies in the exchange of information. Presents self in a warm, professional and caring manner • Skills necessary to provide guidance, training, prioritize and review the work of assigned staff • Demonstrates professional appearance • Analytical ability to develop treatment plans based on occupational therapy theory and incorporation of patient and physician goals • Mental ability to complete required documentation in a timely manner, deal with the concerns of patients and their families, and handle frequent scheduling changes • Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, transfer/lift/ reposition patients, assist patients with exercises, and properly operate rehabilitation equipment/devices, and access patient homes which may not be barrier free • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job |
