About the unit
This is a 35 bed Emergency Center and Level II Trauma Center. Our Emergency Center services a diverse patient population from both Oakland and Wayne County. Our physical plant includes a 3 bed trauma room, fast track area (Express Care), 2 psychiatric rooms, 2 isolation rooms and an RN Greeter location that initiates a split flow type of patient rooming process. The Emergency Center is staffed by ER Physicians, Residents, Registered Nurses, Emergency Technicians, Unit Secretaries, and Emergency Service Associates.

This hospital has grown in size and capabilities over the decades to become a Level II trauma center, serving the community since 1965. It also serves as the base teaching hospital for Michigan State University.
Scope of work
Under direct general supervision of the Registered Nurse and following hospital policy and procedure, provides nursing care to patients. Implements nursing care procedures and evaluates patient progress. Provides teaching to patients and their families. While actual responsibilities and duties may vary depending upon the clinical area assigned, the following are typical of duties that would be performed, under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse.

Qualifications
Required successful completion of a Practical Nursing program from an approved school.
Completion of pharmacology course work (NAPNES or minimum documented 32 hours). Required
LIC-License Practical Nursing (LPN) - State of Michigan, upon hire required
Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification upon hire and other certifications as required by department.
