In the Detroit Powertrain Test Center, we are driving the powertrain R&D validation for our global Daimler Truck brand including alternative and conventional powertrains. In this position, you will be responsible for designing and executing DVP&R battery prototyping. This position involves applying technical expertise to laser welding, cleaning, and plasma equipment and processes uniquely to high voltage battery prototyping. You will be applying your previous knowledge to design, setup, commission, and validate the necessary equipment. Monitoring data quality and troubleshooting technical issues as required to maintain validation objectives. Additionally, this role requires assisting the local but global capable metrology room measuring and validating components design and quality using advanced powertrain engineering methodologies. We are looking for a person who is solution orientated and has excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. In addition, having the ability to accomplish tasks with the highest standards of quality and ethics. This person also must be capable of developing strong working relationships with union and salaried local and global employees.

Position offers a starting salary range of $90,000- $115,000

What You Drive at DTNA
Support company-wide development and validation and launch of electric mobility at Daimler Trucks.
Lead efforts to create and execute DVP&R battery prototyping and component level validation.
Establish test procedures (including instrumentation, calibrations, fixturing, test environment) to fulfill DVP&R requirements.
Utilize structured problem-solving methods to identify root cause for HV battery and integrate corrective actions into new & existing designs.
Lead cross-functional activities with regional and global counterparts in engineering, quality, manufacturing, purchasing, maintenance and suppliers.
Support development of HV battery systems & safety features
Develop scripts and support systems to optimize data mining and generate reports to assist in the development of safe scripting, software and architecture.
Integration, and validation pertaining to electric powertrain components.
Designing, implementing, and validating new laser methods, equipment, and procedures to improve efficiency and productivity.
Validating laser weld quality and components meets design specifications.
Researches, evaluates and recommends new investments in technology, equipment or processes that will enhance the performance and quality.
Develops, plans, and executes metrology methodologies and techniques, validations, and inspections.
Coordinating with other specialists such as architects and engineers to ensure that projects meet requirements.
Develop operating procedures to ensure that experiments and analyses are conducted within budgets and according to established scientific standards.
Create project plans and timelines and assist management with defining budget requirements.
Knowledge You Should Bring
Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering or Technology, Metallurgical Engineering or Technology, Mechanical Engineering or Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related fields (ABET Accredited University)
3-6 years of relevant experience required.
Laser welding & cleaning design and technical knowledge
Experience with plasma equipment and processes
Proficient in technical reports and written procedures
Must be proficient in statistical data analysis and test plan development.
Basic understanding of GD&T
Experience identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems.
Ability to manage multiple projects and inform management of any barriers.
Ability to work in a truly global environment with different cultures to collaborate successfully.
Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
Strong PC skills including MS Office and database tools.
General knowledge of internal combustion and electric mobility powertrain electronics and systems
Strong mechanical aptitude to be able to work across various engineering disciplines.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.
