Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc (HATCI) is looking for a Vehicle Safety Test Engineer at our Superior Township, MI facility who will:
Primary Responsibilities (but not limited to):
Plan, coordinate, execute, and support full vehicle crash testing
(Development, Research, Regulatory, and Consumer Metric 3rd Party tests)
Create vehicle safety test plan
Attend testing and confirm test setup conditions (remotely and/or in-person)
Analyze occupant & structural test data
Conduct post-test structural teardowns and inspections
Generate technical reports of occupant injury and structural performance results
Candidate should have focus and working knowledge of vehicle/ATD sensor and high speed video data acquisition methods and procedures
Work collaboratively with cross functional teams (internal and external organizations)
Develop full vehicle testing processes and procedures from ground-up
Implement process improvements for current procedures
Maintain short term/long term schedules & budgets
Willingness to work in physical full vehicle crash and component testing environments
Hands-on experience and attitude
Willingness to learn new technologies, methods, work scope
Conducting CMM (coordinate measuring machine)
Seating Anthropomorphic Test Devices (ATDs, crash test dummies)
Travel up to 25% of the time domestically and internationally

Experience and Skills:
0-5 years of engineering experience
Vehicle Crash Test Data Acquisition and Post-processing
Knowledge of current crashworthiness testing sensors and transducers
Knowledge and troubleshooting skills for Data Acquisition systems
Vehicle Crash Test High Speed Video Acquisition and Post-processing
Knowledge of setting up high speed cameras for multiple test load cases
Knowledge and troubleshooting of current high speed video acquisitions systems
Basic knowledge of automotive structure, crashworthiness, and safety
Foundational knowledge of Automotive Crashworthiness Requirements (preferred)
FMVSS, US-NCAP, IIHS, Latin NCAP, ECE, EuroNCAP
Exhibit strong data analysis skills, attention to detail, and logical problem solving
Experience using test data analysis software and tools is ideal but not mandatory
National Instruments DIAdem, Altair Hyperworks, MS Excel, etc)
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity
Ideal candidate exhibits can-do attitude and approaches their work with high level of determination
Self- motivator with a drive to get things done despite challenges and obstacles
Minimum Requirements:
BSME; Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar engineering discipline)
Solid foundational understanding of mechanical engineering principles (kinematics, kinetics, material properties, strength of materials)
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
Excellent and effective communication skills (verbal, email, phone call, engineering reports, etc)
Proficient skills in MS Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Proficient time management and organization skills
Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
