Scope of work
The Certified Surgical Assistant assists the surgeon in the performance of approved surgical procedures, and who works under the direct supervision of and by the request of the operating surgeon.

Qualifications
High school diploma Required
Completion of a Surgical Tech First Assistant or Certified Surgical Assistant Program Required
Must receive certification as a Certified Surgical Assistant Certification (CSA) through the NCCSA, or Certified Surgical First Assistant Certification (CSFA) through the NBSTSA within two years of completing first assistant course Required
2 years of relevant experience; Surgical assisting experience Required
Certified (CST) - AST Association of Surgical Technologist Upon Hire Preferred
Certified (CST) - ABSA American Board of Surgical Assistants Upon Hire Preferred
Certified (CST) - NBSTSA National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Upon Hire Preferred
Certified (CSFA) - NBSTSA National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 2 years Required Or
Certified (CSA) - NCCSA National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants within 2 years Required
AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Upon Hire Required
AHA ACLS Adv Cardiovascular Life Support Upon Hire Preferred
