POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Child Care Director and Lead Teacher, and in accordance with the policies of the Northern Lights YMCA, the Assistant Teacher will support the classroom environment and help ensure the health, welfare, and happiness of all children in their care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Support the Lead Teacher in all classroom functions.
- Foster a nurturing, positive environment conducive to child development.
- Interact with children respectfully and consistently; serve as a positive role model.
- Follow all YMCA standards, policies, and rules.
- Follow State of Michigan Licensing policies and rules.
- Stay vigilant for safety hazards and respond appropriately using first aid, CPR, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens or Lifevac training. Promptly report any injuries.
- Know the whereabouts of all children and be present with childcare at all times.
- Assist in the implementation of lesson plans and activities designed by the Lead Teacher.
- Encourage learning through play and engagement, reinforcing YMCA core values.
- Help maintain cleanliness and safety of the program area and equipment.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Provide excellent service and communication to children and parents.
- Offer feedback on children’s progress and behavior to Lead Teacher.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Child Care Director.
