EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to probationary period
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under direction, coordinates services provided for young children with diagnosed or suspected mental health and/or behavioral challenges as described in the Head Start Performance Standards in conjunction with other program service areas; provides resources and support to classroom and home-based staff taking a preventative perspective; works with parents and other appropriate agencies to facilitate necessary services; monitors and ensures the proper implementation of mental health standards; monitors the implementation of the Head Start Program and early child development services; performs related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
Observes and evaluates classrooms, staff and daily operations as they relate to the social and emotional health of young children.
Ensures mental health standards are implemented by providing direction to staff as needed.
Coordinates the evaluation and planning for children with special needs/mental health concerns with other program coordinators and community partners.
Coordinates therapeutic services for children with outside agencies.
Assists in the development, evaluation and implementation of behavioral plans.
Reviews, screens and assesses needs of children and families.
Tracks, inputs data, monitors and reports all mental health data on an ongoing basis.
Conducts home visits and conferences, when necessary, to ensure that the mental health needs of children and families are met.
Acts as a resource and consultant for developmentally appropriate activities and practices for in home and classroom experiences.
Provides programmatic support to address specific issues that affect more than one child, staff member and/or family, as it relates to social-emotional health.
Provides staff and parents with mental health training and information; plans and conducts applicable professional development workshops.
Maintains all required written documentation, including but not limited to, classroom operations and how they relate to the mental health of young children.
Maintains and upkeeps documentation in the Child Plus database, as well as in the child file.
Integrates mental health services with all other service areas.
Completes and prepares statistical data and completes necessary reports; completes computer data entry using program specific software.
Ensures compliance with the Head Start Act, Head Start Performance Standards and Licensing Regulations.
Operates an automobile while performing assigned duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience

A Master Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling from an accredited college or university

State of Michigan licensure in clinical social work, clinical psychology, or counseling

A minimum of two (2) years’ experience managing children with emotional and behavioral challenges
