This business unit is charged with overseeing and executing all aspects of the state's tourism promotion efforts as part of the MEDC's overall objective of improving Michigan's image as a world-class business, talent and leisure travel destination. This position leads Travel Michigan's comprehensive strategy and brand efforts across key channels, including advertising, public relations, digital media, international initiatives, and state and national industry and stakeholder relations. This position manages a cross-functional team and is responsible for the administrative, personnel, financial and operational activities of Travel Michigan while also collaborating with colleagues within MEDC and across other state departments on travel and tourism-related initiatives. Building strong relationships within the tourism industry and facilitating solutions to advance the goals of that industry is a key component of this role.

This position is located in Lansing, MI. This position may work a hybrid (remote/in-office) schedule. Selected candidates who have been approved to work a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated capability to develop, deliver, and execute marketing strategies and tactics across all channels, either with direct supervision or through influence and collaboration.
Measurement and analytics capabilities that ensure efficiency and impact of marketing investment, as well as ability to present outcomes of those investments to organizational leadership and other stakeholders.
Strong written, verbal, listening, and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and present project plans to peers and upper management.
Ability to build trust throughout the organization and manage a wide variety of strategic priorities, while working well under pressure.
Required Education and Experience
Minimum Education Required:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in Business Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or related field.
Minimum Experience Required:
This position requires a minimum of eight to ten years of related experience and/or training in the travel and/or tourism industry. Prefer experience in management, brand development, public relations, marketing, advertising strategies, digital marketing (web, social media, online), project management, public speaking, international travel, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience identifying and/or attracting international markets preferred.
