Job Description
This is a position for hybrid military tracked vehicles like main battle tanks, recovery vehicles, armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles and variants of those vehicles. The Sr Specialist Electrical Engineer will support Hybrid powerpack development and vehicle integration programs at RENK America. Will also support the design and development of a Propulsion Power Controller (PPC) for the transmission, drive by wire and hybrid controls including motor and inverter controls. Other responsibilities will include customer interfacing, technical approach and execution.
Essential Functions:
Technical lead on customer and internal programs related to Hybrid Electric Powertrain systems integration.
Provide technical oversight and management of the assigned Hybrid Electric Powertrain integration while leading a cross-functional team.
Communicate and present project status, highlight schedule and technical risks, and develop recovery plans to meet milestones.
Plan, coordinate and execute the testing of Hybrid powerpack and powertrain systems on dynamometer or in application.
Support hybrid powerpack electrical requirements capture and decomposition into sub-systems and components requirements in order to meet customer requirements.
Support the hybrid powerpack electrical architecture with emphasis on high voltage power management, power conversion and power regulation, including isolation, shielding and routing.
Perform detailed studies and design of the electric and/or hybrid powertrain system (including the physical, electrical, and controls architecture & integration aspects) with emphasis on safety, quality, and cost. Lead and/or participate in system, subsystem and/or vehicle level DFMEA. Develop design guidelines for hybrid powerpacks.
Support the design and release of hybrid powerpack power electronics, generator, gearbox, charging system and thermal management system.
Review and approve detailed drawings for technical content.
Develop, review and approve test plans and test reports to validate new designs.
Lead the preparation and delivery of internal and external engineering reports & presentations.
Level/pay for this position will be commensurate with experience.
Pay Range $116,000 - $139,500
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university with a minimum of 9 years related experience.
In-depth understanding of various Hybrid and/or Electric vehicle architectures, including subsystems and components design or selection for high voltage and high current applications.
5 - 10 years of relevant experience in Hybrid Powertrain and prior experience as Lead or Project Engineer.
Sound knowledge of vehicle electrical and software systems, architecture and integration on vehicles.
Working knowledge of EMC principles and standards for military or automotive applications.
Experience in motors, inverters, DC-DC power conversions, and associated power electronics.
High power EMI / EMC expertise.
Experience with thermal management for power electronics and batteries components.
Ability to manage and organize multiple project tasks to meet established deadlines.
Must be capable of obtaining a DOD security clearance.
Good written and verbal communications.
Must be available for domestic and foreign travel (30% - 50%). Upon hire, the candidate may spend up to 3 months in Germany for training.
Preferred Additional Skills:
PhD or MS Degree majoring in power electronics from an accredited institution.
Minimum five (5) years hands on experience with Electric Vehicle (EV) or Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) powertrains, specializing in power electronics architectures, control/software development.
Minimum three (3) years' experience in developing electrical hardware, including DC-DC converters, permanent magnet machine controls or motor controls.
Minimum two (2) years' experience in inverter systems or electric vehicle AC and DC charging technologies, power electronics standards and regulation including but not limited to ISO 26262.
Experience conducting electrical, thermal and EMC analysis on DC-DC, inverter or integrated power electronics system and subsystems.
