General Summary:
This position is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients, specimens, and medication, throughout the hospital as assigned.
Essential Duties:
Transport patients safely, timely, and efficiently. This may include assisting with lifting the patients on and off beds and moving patients throughout the hospital.
Requires the ability to recognize if the patient is experiencing stress or other issues during transport and immediately seeks assistance.
Monitors O2, IV's, catheters, etc. and alert appropriate personal with problems 100% of the time.
Informs supervisor/dispatcher of all delays within 10 minutes.
Maintains transport equipment in a clean, safe and orderly manner. Returns all equipment to the appropriate location.
Maintains and completes all departmental records, completes proper handoff before removing patient from dept/unit. Check all patients ID bands and complete two patient identifiers prior to transportation.
Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures.
Understands and demonstrate safe lifting and transport techniques.
Knows and practices universal precautions as appropriate.
Requires demonstrated communication skills to interact with courtesy, tact, empathy, and professionalism in daily interactions with patient, their families, clinical licensed and non-licensed staff, physicians and management.
Ability to understand and follow direction, ability to comply with HIPAA confidentiality requirements.
May be responsible for transporting specimens, oxygen, stretchers, and other items as assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent, Required
Work Experience:
Prior transport experience, Preferred
Certification, Licensure, Registration:
BLS certification required within 60 days of hire

Physical Effort:
Strength: Position requires incumbent to constantly perform physical activities requiring ability to push/pull object up to 50 pounds and frequently lift objects up to 50 pounds and to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
Manual Dexterity: Position requires incumbent to constantly perform simple motor skills such as standing, holding tools, and occasionally perform difficult manipulative skills such as manipulation of cleaning tools and equipment.
Coordination: Position requires incumbent to constantly perform gross body coordination such as walking, pushing large cart, i.e. linen, trash, etc. Constantly performing tasks, which require eye-hand coordination such as working with cleaning tools and equipment and constantly performing task, which require arm-hand steadiness such as operation of cleaning tools and equipment.
Mobility: Position requires incumbent to constantly perform mobility skills such as walking, frequently perform mobility skills such as squatting and reaching above shoulder height and occasionally perform fine manipulation functions.
Visual Discrimination: Position requires incumbent to constantly see objects closely as in inspecting areas for cleanliness, reading product labels, etc.
Hearing: Position requires incumbent to constantly hear normal sounds such as equipment operating and being able to hear pages, telephone conversations, etc.

Concentration: Position requires ability to constantly concentrate on moderate detail with constant interruption.
Attention Span: Position require the ability to frequently attend to a task or function for more than 60 minutes.
Conceptualization: Position requires ability to frequently understand and relate to specific ideas.

Work Environment:
Frequently exposed to electro-magnetic radiations as in VDT's.
Occasionally exposed to hazardous materials other than blood, body tissues, or fluids, dust, toxins, cytotoxins, chemical hazardous materials, bodily injuries, loud and/or unpleasant noises, high humidity, electrical hazards, or poisonous substances.
Exposure to fluctuations in temperature, grease, oil, and radiation.
