We are looking for a Registered Dietitian who can provide individual and group education and counseling sessions for bariatric surgery patients before and after surgery.
*Outpatient- Weight Control Center - Canton, MI. No weekends or Holidays.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary Patient Care Team to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy and education to meet the needs of identified patient population. Participates in the identification of patients at nutrition risk; assesses nutritional status/needs; develops, adapts, and coordinates the nutrition care plan for optimal nutrition management. Educates inpatients and outpatients. Participates in hospital and community education programs. Serves as a resource to staff and other health care providers. Performs research. Provides excellent patient and family centered care and service as it relates to Beaumont standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs nutritional assessment using age appropriate standards, utilizing validated assessment tools and nutrition focused physical assessments. Includes documentation of nutrition related diagnosis when indicated.
Coordinates nutrition therapy with physicians and other health care professionals. Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and care planning sessions.
Plans, implements, and adapts nutritional care plan to meet physician orders, age and disease specific physiologic needs. Intervention plan includes appropriate feeding route, mode, and nutrition prescription.
Monitors and evaluates patient response to medical nutrition therapy using specific goals and determines change if indicated.
Performs patient, family, and care giver education related to nutritional therapy and incorporates best method of learning style and communication into sessions.
Educates and trains hospital staff, students, and interns.
Performs quality improvement, research, and outcome studies. Identifies and communicates opportunities for waste reduction and service improvements.
Documents accurately, completely, and appropriately in electronic medical record.
Assists in the development and revision of nutrition related department tools, training materials, policies and procedures.
Participates in the evaluation of clinical nutrition products and equipment.

Education / Training:
Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition, medical dietetics, or similar program is required. A dietetic internship in an acute care setting, coordinated undergraduate or similar Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics approved program is required.
Work Experience:
Minimum one-year experience preferred
Certification, Licensure, Registration:
Registration with the Commission of Dietetic Registration, required
Other Qualifications:
Must be trained and competent in nutrition focused physical assessment skills
Must possess excellent communication, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively in English.
