General Summary
The primary focus of this role is to administer, maintain, and provide ongoing support for the University's Total Rewards program, compensation, classification, and benefits. Under general direction, this classification will play a key role in the implementation and ongoing advocacy of the total rewards strategy as part of the larger HR strategy.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Provide support for the design/modification, implementation, and administration of classification/compensation programs, including an assortment of base pay structures (e.g. pay for performance; broadband; step rates; longevity) for a variety of classifications.
Assist with the evaluation of existing and proposed jobs and classify them according to levels of responsibility.
Ensures that EMU compensation and pay practices are compliant with all pertinent regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, those enforced by the Department of Labor, such as FLSA, Wage and Hour regulations.
Research and analyze laws, regulations, and policies applicable to human resources compensation and benefits.
Maintain the University's online classification specification directory.
Manages the annual compensation cycle, including market pricing, salary range development, and review, salary budgeting, and administration of merit increase and contributes to the continuous improvement of the compensation process and workflow.
Completes salary surveys for exempt and non-exempt positions and works on classifications, job evaluations, and job analysis to analyze compensation and competitive pay practices and trends.
Works closely with the HR Business Partners in advising department managers on the appropriate classifications in projected reorganizations, including classification criteria, pay determination, and salary administration.
Manages total rewards communication projects, such as total rewards statements, departmental web postings and on-line Total Rewards Communication Portal content design and updates.
Provides day-to-day benefits support and administration and assists with benefit plan design and vendor management.
Analyzes benefits and compensation data and compiles reports, documentation, and other materials needed for collective bargaining negotiations.
Develops and analyzes metrics for the total rewards unit under the guidance of the Director of Total Rewards and VP of University Human Resources.
Provides regular reports and updates on spending and total rewards budget management and creates reports and recommendations on budget, utilization, communications, and overall effectiveness.
Develop quality control processes and document procedures to streamline processes and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and collaborate with HR Business Partners to educate Managers.
Participate in cross-functional teams and undertake special projects of moderate complexity related to Compensation and Benefits.
Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers.
Perform related Departmental duties as required and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
A combined total of two or more years of progressively responsible work experience in two of the following areas of human resources is required: classification, compensation, benefits, or HRIS.
Familiarity with salary surveys and market pricing is required.
Demonstrated experience in successfully managing multiple tasks and complex projects simultaneously is required.
Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and make decisions independently using rational judgment is required.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and advanced proficiency of Excel is required.
Previous experience using an HRIS is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree and/or professional human resources certification is preferred.
Professional certifications in one or more areas of HR administration preferred (i.e., CCP, PHR, SHRM).
Experience with PageUp, Banner HR, or similar, comprehensive online system is desired.
Experience working in a highly unionized environment is desired.
Ability to write reports using Access, Crystal or similar reporting software is highly desirable.
