Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking aSHE (Safety, Health, and Environmental) Specialist II. In this career position, you will be supporting the Combat Mission Systems (CMS) Business at our Sterling Heights, Michigan site to help promote safety awareness and compliance.
SHE Specialist, responsibilities will include:
Assist in implementing and maintaining programs for SHE protection and compliance to local, state, & federal regulations, inspection, and oversight of best management practices.
Participate in emergency planning activities, integrating SHE programs in a prototype environment, and the SHE training of employees and subcontractors.
Help support in the development and implementation of SHE processes to ensure that regulatory obligations are fulfilled in a cost-effective manner and that SHE risks are effectively managed.
Support Near Miss reporting and tracking to closure.
Assist with hazardous material and waste management, groundwater remediation, waste water reporting, and environmental sustainability.
Be responsible for required routine SHE duties such as prototype shop inspections, inspecting fire extinguishers and AED units.
Provide new hire orientations.
Help with investigating accidents.
Other duties and job responsibilities as assigned.
Note: This position will report onsite on a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Safety, or a related discipline, and two years of related experience;
Knowledgeable in SHE regulations and compliance;
A collaborative team player with the ability to take initiative individually;
An effective communicator, written and verbal;
Able to assist in facilitating meetings and working groups;
Ability to coach and consult with employees in an effort to build a culture of SHE excellence;
Exceptional organizational skills;
Basic knowledge of SHE Management Systems (ISO 45001/ISO 14001 requirements);
Computer skills to include Microsoft Office;
Ability to support on site in Sterling Heights, Michigan, on a 9/80 schedule.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Previous experience with hazardous waste management;
Project Management skills;
Familiarity with audit processes;
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certificate in Hazardous Material Management (CHMM), and/or Certified in Industrial Hygiene (CIH);
Experience identifying and mitigating risk management.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $75570 - $128480
