The Bureau of Research and Planning provides research, statistical analysis, and information in support of strategic and operational planning, management, and program evaluation. The Bureau also manages the enterprise-wide automated data systems and functions. And responds to emergency and ad hoc requests for data, analysis and information from the Governor's Office, the State Budget Office, the Legislature and Fiscal Agencies, the Courts, other State agencies, universities and colleges, other public/private organizations, the media, and the public.
To administer and supervise the managers and operations of Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) Research, Planning and Automated Data Systems, provide annual prison population projections, develop Departmental strategic planning objectives, coordinate Department- Wide IT systems development and data analysis and approve all research and evaluation projects conducted in the Department. Serve on MDOC committees, testify in legislative hearings as necessary and act as an expert witness as requested by the Litigation Division and Attorney General's Office. Provide Departmental-wide capability to respond to Ad Hoc/Emergency requests for information and data on critical issues, especially regarding the impact of proposed changes to laws, policy, and procedures.

Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
Experience
Two years of professional managerial experience.
Alternate Education and Experience
Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and three years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement supervisory experience at the 14 level; or, two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement supervisory experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
Additional Requirements and Information
New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
