The Instrumentation Technician II will install test equipment in development vehicles such as
thermocouples, transducers, sensors, fiberoptics, accelerometers, strain gages and data acquisition
systems. The role will build, modify, adjust and calibrate installed devices. This role will build and install
low voltage wire harnesses to drawings and schematics. The Instrumentation Technician II will perform
independent project tasks and collaborate with customers and team members.
Education and Experience (required):
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Instrumentation Technician.
Experience performing soldering, crimping, tube bending, component layout and packaging on
vehicles or subsystems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Build and install low voltage automotive and instrumentation wiring harnesses, auxiliary battery
and electrical systems.
- Install, adjust and calibrate sensors, shunts, fiber optics, accelerometers, strain gages and data
acquisition systems.
- Collaborate with Customers, Fabricators, and Mechanics to identify required locations for sensor
installation according to Instrumentation Requirement List (IRL).
Manage and maintain prototype test vehicle fleet for the section to ensure maximum up time; includes installing and maintaining instrumentation on new vehicles
Help plan prototype vehicle instrumentation lists for new programs to ensure new prototype builds have proper instrumentation lists - (EVAP cars get EVAP instrumentation)
Maintain vehicle tracking list with hardware/software updates, vehicle usage requests (from other engineering activities), and vehicle location(s)
Work with calibrators to ensure vehicles are prepped for specific testing
Issue work orders to support vehicle updates, part changes, repairs, etc; coordinate with the sites on vehicle delivery/pick-up and timing for work
DV Testing
- Support team DV testing, including running tests, such as OBD DV
Test Trip support
Support test trips as needed, estimate 1 trip per quarter depending on program workload
Test trip support can include vehicle prep, vehicle maintenance/part swaps, and collecting test data while on the trip
Coordinate vehicle delivery/pick-up from test trips
Soft Skills
Self-starter and proactive with above task descriptions
Work at other sites such as APTL, Roush9, etc as needed
Work closely with calibrators in section
Work closely with other building technicians to maintain safety and collaborative garage work environment
Support and help other technicians/calibrators within the organization as needed
Experience using typical Ford calibration suite of tools is highly desired
