Job Description Summary
A postdoctoral scholar position is available at Michigan Technological University in Biomedical Engineering. The scholar will perform live-cell imaging experiments with different substrate softness, which include soft substrate fabrication, cell culture, live-cell fluorescence imaging, and transient transfection or viral transduction of FRET reporter genes to cells. The candidate is also expected to analyze and evaluate research data and provide interpretations requiring significant knowledge of a specialized area of research, to prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and assist in grant proposals, to disseminate research at national and international conferences, and to work with other members of the research team, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and research collaborators.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
Perform live-cell imaging experiments with different substrate softness
Perform transient transfection or viral transduction of FRET reporter genes to cells
Analyze and evaluate research data and provide interpretations requiring significant knowledge of a specialized area of research
Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and assist in grant proposals
Train graduate and undergraduate students
Disseminate research at national and international conferences
Work with other members of the research team, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and research collaborators
Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work and adhere to applicable safety protocols
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
Earned Ph.D. in Biology or Biomedical Engineering. (Degree must be earned within the previous 6 years).
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
Experience in cell culture, immunofluorescence staining, DNA transfection, viral transduction, fluorescence imaging, soft-substrate fabrication, and basic image analysis
Desirable Education and/or Experience
Experience in cell molecular biology is preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)
Mechanobiology, cell biology, FRET sensor, basic mechanics knowledge, good technical writing skills
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
Knowledge in molecular biological techniques including gene silencing, mutagenesis, western blot, proteomic screening and analysis, gene amplification, fluorescence conjugation to a protein
Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints.
